Rail Transportation

The route for the train transportation option consists of a railroad section and road sections between Loviisa and Olkiluoto. Transportation from the power plant to the railroad and from the railroad to the repository requires the same equipment, escort and security measures as road transportation.

It is not likely that the railroad would be extended to Olkiluoto. Spent fuel transported via railroad would, then, be loaded from a train to a road transportation vehicle at the Vuojoki loading site about 20 km from Olkiluoto. Deep-loading carriages will be used for the transportation of containers by railroad.
