Finnish final disposal expertise gains worldwide interest

Posiva’s expertise in the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel has attracted a lot of international demand. Posiva Solutions, a subsidiary of Posiva, has clients both in Finland and in other parts of the world.

Visitors from all over the world have visited Olkiluoto to familiarize themselves with Posiva´s final disposal solution. In April, for example, the delegation of Mr. Yang Changlin, Vice President of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), was hosted by Posiva and Posiva Solutions. Mr. Yang’s delegation also included representatives from the Beijing Research Institute of Uranium Geology (BRIUG), responsible for the siting strategy of the final disposal in China. The visitors were satisfied with the informative visit and the ONKALO™ research facility. CNNC is a large-scale nuclear utility company with nearly 100,000 employees.

Posiva’s final disposal solution of spent nuclear fuel, the result of decades of research and development work, has gained a great deal of international interest. In the summer 2016, Posiva established Posiva Solutions, a subsidiary company focusing on service business, to meet the growing demand.

Posiva Solutions’ activities have started well with several service contracts for final disposal know-how signed both in Finland and in several other countries in Europe, Asia and North America. Some of the contracts are for several years.

Posiva Solutions focuses on the sales of the know-how Posiva has accumulated from the design, research and development and construction activities in the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel. Posiva Solutions offers tailor-made expert services to its clients in co-operation with a large network of partners.
