02.07.2010 Finnish Parliament approves extension of the final disposal facility for the Olkiluoto 4 unit
The Finnish Parliament approved the extension of Posiva's final disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel from the Olkiluoto 4 unit on 1 July 2010 by 159 votes to 35. The extension will increase the capacity of the final disposal facility by 2,500 uranium-tons of spent nuclear fuel.
The Municipal Council of Eurajoki approved on 24 August 2008 a statement in favour of Posiva's application for a decision-in-principle on the expansion of the final disposal facility in Olkiluoto to accommodate also spent fuel from the third nuclear power plant unit in Loviisa. The decision was carried with 22 votes in favour and 4 against.
26.06.2009 The current status of the licensing process for the extension of the final repository
In March 2009, Posiva submitted an application for a decision-in-principle to the Government regarding an extension of the final disposal facility to the extent that the spent nuclear fuel from the Loviisa 3 plant unit planned by Fortum Oyj and Fortum Power and Heat Oy can be finally disposed of at Olkiluoto.
Posiva Oy has today submitted an application for a decision-in-principle to the Government, concerning the final disposal of the spent fuel from the Loviisa 3 unit to Olkiluoto in Eurajoki. The application is part of the decision-in-principle process of Fortum Oyj and Fortum Power and Heat Oy (Fortum). On 5 February 2009, Fortum submitted an application to build a third nuclear power plant in Hästholmen in Loviisa.
25.04.2008 Posiva applies for decision in principle on final disposal of spent fuel from Olkiluoto 4
Posiva Oy has today submitted an application to the Finnish Government for a decision in principle on the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel from Olkiluoto 4 in Olkiluoto in the Municipality of Eurajoki. The application is part of the decision in principle process of Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO). TVO has today submitted an application for the construction of the fourth nuclear power plant unit in Olkiluoto.
