Construction Licence

According to the present schedules, the application for a construction licence for a repository will be submitted by Posiva by the end of 2012. The construction licence is granted by the Government.

Posiva’s capacity to apply for a construction licence will be assessed in 2009. This is when Posiva will present the preliminary reports required for the construction licence to the Ministry of Employment and the Economy. The reports shall show which parts of the documents required by the construction licence are incomplete and in which way and on what schedule the documents will be supplemented.

 

For the discussion on Posiva’s application for a construction licence for a repository, Posiva must, according to the Nuclear Energy Act and Nuclear Energy Decree, provide the authorities with several reports and surveys proving the safety of the facility. These include:

  • detailed technical designs
  • safety case
  • up-to-date reports on the environmental impacts of the plant for all the waste types to be placed in the repository
  • up-to-date reports on the design principles that Posiva will follow in order to avoid any environmental damage and to reduce the environmental load.
