POPLU plug casted

The first full scale demonstration for a deposition tunnel plug in a future disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel is there

Extensive amount of planning, prestudies, budgeting, design, modelling, laboratory work, facility tests, mock up tests, underground testing, characterisation, geophysical studies, drilling, wedging and grinding, measurements and analysis, laser scanning, sampling, method descriptions, meetings, coordination, reporting, installation, monitoring, underground construction activities and finally casting. The DOPAS Experiment 4 POPLU deposition tunnel  plug was casted in two phases: first part in July 2015 and second part in September 2015. The monitoring of the plug behaviour did start already prior casting activities and first results are available. After grouting the contact between crystalline host rock and plug the POPLU Experiment will be pressurised to study its behaviour at the depth of 420 metres below surface.
