The first part of the EPSP plug has been constructed

Josef Gallery where the DOPAS Experiment 2 EPSP is being constructed has been very busy during the last weeks.

The EPSP plug has been designed as a multilayer system which consists of two main structural elements; sprayed concrete and a sealing element - the bentonite section between the concrete walls. Fibre shotcrete will be used in the construction of the various elements of the EPSP; the bentonite sealing section will be constructed using spraying technology. The plug will be tested by injecting an air/water/suspension into a pressurizing chamber and the subsequent monitoring of the performance of the plug.

The plug area has been prepared and part of the instrumentation and installations needed for monitoring as well  has been installed. The emplacement trials based on the laboratory work has been done in the field and the inner part of  sprayed concrete plug was installed in November 2014.

Next phase is the installing of bentonite seal after holiday season.
