Posiva seeks powerful influencing and better leadership through training programme on leadership and managerial skills
Personality is a tool; behaviour is choosing how to use it. What comes into a room when you enter? High regard shows when you meet people. Value of experience of emotion to the business. Leadership actions that invite trust.

Above are some highlights of the areas in which Posiva is now seeking to develop the work of managerial staff as well as leadership. How to prepare to do something as the first one in the world? Where to find the strengths, confidence, and pride that lead to effective implementation? How to develop corporate culture, and along with it, safety culture?
At the end of January, Posiva organised at the Murikanranta Conference Hotel in Teisko, Tampere, a two-day training event for managerial staff focusing on identifying the cornerstones of Posiva’s leadership. This event was the first one in the training programme that will continue until the autumn with more one-day and virtual training events. Posiva’s Management Team were also present at the event in full force.
Reforming Posiva’s corporate culture
The training event for managerial staff was part of the corporate culture reform project started by Posiva in early 2024. According to Posiva’s President and CEO Ilkka Poikolainen, the corporate culture reform is designed to achieve high safety culture, effectiveness, and wellbeing at work. The reform of the corporate culture also supports the transition from project stage to start of production.
New elements were introduced to operations already at the beginning of 2024, such as fortnightly status reviews, forums for managerial staff every month, and more frequent information events for the personnel. The employees’ possibilities to influence the development of operations were increased by including the entire personnel of Posiva in the shared annual planning events.
The amount of both internal and external communication has increased quite a lot, too. All in all, the objective has been to highlight the importance of developing managerial work and leadership, and the training programme that has now been launched is one part of that.
Some things have already been accomplished. At the end of 2024, a personnel survey as well as a safety culture survey were conducted and both yielded clearly higher results than ever before. This supports our belief that we have chosen the right direction, Poikolainen says.
